Hej Forumvänner!

Consumer Electronic Show(CES) 2008 i Las Vegas har öppnat. CES är en branchmässa där bland annat HiFi-branchen presenterar mycket av sina nyheter för det kommande året.

Jag var där 2006 och 2007 och rapporterade nyheter ur en HiFi-entusiasts synvinkel. De repportagen hittas här:
- CES 2007

- CES 2006:
- CES i största allmännhet
- Swedish statement rummet.
- Lyngdorf Audio.
- Audio Research
- Balanced Audio technology
- Emmlabs, Dartzeel & Von Schweikert
- Mcintosh

http://www.audiofederation.com/hifiing/2008/CES2008/index.htm

De har redan lagt ut lite bilder från THE Show som går av stapeln samtidigt som CES

På en av bilderna från THE show kan man se att i Alexis Park rum 1310 kan man hitta några Svenska branchrepresentanter, närmare bestämt Sjofn hiFi, GURU Proaudio, Holographic Audio och Supra Cables. Kul att Svenskarna syns!

GATES KEYNOTE, CES UNVEILED AND PRODUCT DEBUTS LAUNCH THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL CES

Gates' Pre-Show Keynote Address and Major Product and Partnership Announcements Create Buzz on Eve of 2008 CES

Arlington, Va., January 7, 2008; A final pre-show keynote by Microsofts Bill Gates, as well as innovative product launches and partnership announcements created a buzz among attendees on the eve of the 2008 International CES®. Produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the 2008 International CES, the worlds largest tradeshow for consumer technology, opened today in Las Vegas and runs through January 10.

The pre-CES events generated excitement among attendees and individuals around the world for the innovations and new technologies that will launch this week from the International CES show floor, said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA.. With 2,700 companies spanning 1.85 million net square feet of exhibit space, the largest in CES history, the 2008 International CES is an amazing, global event for consumer technology. Attendees at this year#8217;s show will experience digital entertainment combined with new content and services, along with the latest technology products to create the ultimate consumer experience.

On Saturday evening, the fourth annual CES Unveiled: The Official Press Event of the International CES, kicked off the pre-CES media events at the Sands Expo and Convention Center/The Venetian. Featuring 70 exhibitors, CES Unveiled showcased the latest technologies and innovations in robotics, home theater, digital imaging, sustainable technologies and more.

The media excitement continued on Sunday, CES; Press Day, with 12 exhibitor press conferences taking place at the Sands/Venetian. CES exhibitors, including LG, Pioneer, Philips, Sharp, Monster Cable and Toshiba, made major company announcements and launched new products during their press events.

Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft Corporation, delivered his eleventh and final keynote address Sunday evening. Gates, who will retire from his full time position as chairman of Microsoft in July, will shift his focus to charitable work on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates marked the occasion with a humorous sketch featuring friends including former Vice President Al Gore, rapper/producer Jay Z and U2 front man Bono.

In his presentation, Gates described the "next digital decade," distinguished by an expanding HD experience. He predicted that displays will be everywhere, including walls and desks. In addition, all devices will be service-connected, which will relieve users from having to bridge between content and devices. Gates noted that next digital decade also will see the power of the natural user interface take hold, with "touch" technology and speech recognition appearing in more products.

Gates also announced a major partnership with NBC, in which MSN will be the exclusive online provider of live, on demand footage from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Over 3,000 hours of footage will be available at www.NBCOlympics.com.

Gates introduced on stage Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft#8217;s Entertainment & Devices Division. Bach reported on the tremendous momentum of Xbox Live, which has surpassed 10 million members. Bach also announced a partnership with MGM, in which the entertainment company will provide a library of films for Xbox Live.

Building from the growing success of Microsofts partnership with Ford for Sync, the in-car entertainment and communication system, Bach announced the expansion of Sync to Fords Lincoln and Mercury brands.

FREE TRADE, CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND DYNAMIC KEYNOTES HIGHLIGHT DAY ONE OF THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL CES

Leaders from Panasonic, Intel and Yahoo! Kick Off World#8217;s Largest Technology Tradeshow

Arlington, Va., January 8, 2008 #8211; The 2008 International CES® opened yesterday with an explosion of cutting-edge technologies, with more than 2,700 innovative exhibitors spanning a record 1.85 million net square feet of exhibit space, as well as dynamic industry keynotes and conference sessions. Produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the 2008 International CES, the world#8217;s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, runs through Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro kicked off the 2008 CES with his #8220;State of the Industry#8221; address. Shapiro projected that CE industry sales would jump to $171 billion in 2008, a 6.1 percent increase over 2007. Shapiro cautioned that although the CE industry would continue to outpace projected sales in other industries, continued growth is threatened by those who promote protectionist policies. Urging CES attendees to support robust free trade policies, Shapiro noted that in 2006 U.S. high tech companies exported more than $220 billion of their products, accounting for one fifth of total U.S. exports, and making high-tech America#8217;s largest export sector. Shapiro also announced an unprecedented free trade initiative between CEA, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The three groups made a formal request to Congress to approve pending free trade agreements, and to restore th e President#8217;s authority to negotiate free trade agreements.

Following Shapiro#8217;s remarks, Toshihiro Sakamoto, president, Panasonic AVC Networks Company, delivered the opening keynote address. Sakamoto shared his vision of the "Digital Hearth," where technology, including high-definition digital imaging and displays, brings friends and family together.

Sakamoto unveiled Panasonic#8217;s newest technology, including a 24.7 mm-thin flat-panel television, double luminance efficiency technology that reduces power consumption on displays by 50 percent, and the world#8217;s first 150" plasma flat-panel television with 2000x4000 resolution, which will be manufactured at Panasonic#8217;s just-announced fifth production facility.

Sakamoto also performed the first public demonstration of wireless HD video transmission with Panasonic's #8220;Home Base,#8221; and unveiled a wireless HD camcorder that transmits recorded HD video to a device without the need for a single cable. Sakamoto concluded with several new partnership announcements with major companies including Comcast, YouTube and Google#8217;s Picasso.

Monday#8217;s first SuperSession, #8220;Connect2Car,#8221; co-organized by the Convergence Transportation Electronics Association (CTEA) and SAE International, featured automakers and consumer electronics manufacturers discussing ways the auto and CE industries can satisfy consumer demand for in-vehicle technology. Panelists from BMW, Chrysler and Ford each described platforms for bringing integrated solutions into the car.

In the morning SuperSession, #8220;The New Face of America#8217;s Elections,#8221; executives from the MPAA and YouTube and politicos from the Republican Main Street Partnership, The New Politics Institute and Americans for Tax Reform, joined CNBC anchor, Maria Bartiromo, to discuss the impact of new media on the 2008 elections. While panelists#8217; views differed on which political party and candidates have best harnessed technology, there was agreement regarding the power of new technologies to help candidates advance their platform, increase civic participation and empower American voters to be more informed about candidates.

Jerry Yang, CEO of Yahoo! Inc., kicked off the CES Industry Insiders Series Monday afternoon at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater. Yang unveiled the new Yahoo! Mobile 3.0, an easier-to-navigate platform for mobile devices. Yang told the crowded theater that Yahoo!'s goal is to remain a simple starting point to the Internet to help busy consumers navigate the ever-expanding web. "Our goal is to make your life easier," Yang said.

#8220;Technology Impact: The Shaping of Hollywood Decision Making,#8221; a SuperSession hosted by Variety, featuredtop studio digital media executives from Paramount, Disney, Fox and Warner Brothers. The panel addressed how technology advances impact the strategic decisions made by studios, and explored new ways the Internet and mobile devices can drive monetization of new media content. The group predicted an explosion of online video content in the next several years.

Monday#8217;s next SuperSession, "The Top Ten Technologies You've Never Heard Of," explored what's really hot in consumer technology. The panel of technology experts discussed the possibilities of wireless technologies that will allow multiple devices to work without the interference that consumers experience today. The panelists told a standing-room only crowd that products in the near future will be completely wireless, meaning no power cords or wires of any kind.

In the highly popular SuperSession, #8220;CNET#8217;s Next Big Thing,#8221; on Monday afternoon, CNET editor Brian Cooley moderated a panel which explored the top three technology ideas that should pay off big in the next year. The hot topics included technology in the car, PC in your pocket and the future of television.

Monday#8217;s closing keynote address by Intel's President and CEO Paul Otellini kicked off with a cartoon take-off entitled, "Video killed the Radio World," that focused on how the Internet has changed the world. Otellini said the Internet is going to bring services beyond RSS, push and alerts. Several travel demos of wireless translation technologies showed how technology can seamlessly provide the information we need regardless of the device we choose to use, especially while mobile.

A highlight of the session was when Steve Harwell of Smashmouth sang alone on stage connected to his band virtually over the Internet using #8220;ejamming#8221; software.

Otellini concluded by saying that the personal Internet is inevitable: more powerful, more connected, more context-aware and more personal. He said, "the consumer will be the new generator of content creating brand new business models."

NEW CONTENT PLATFORMS AND ELECTRONIC ADVANCES IN THE AUTO MARKET HOT TOPICS FOR DAY TWO OF THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL CES

Comcast and General Motors Keynotes Highlight Consumer Technology's Impact on the Content and Automotive Industries

Arlington, Va., January 9, 2008 #8211; New content and entertainment platforms and electronic advances in the automotive market were the hot topics on the second day of the 2008 International CES®. Leaders from Comcast and General Motors delivered keynote addresses on day two, illustrating consumer technology#8217;s growing relationship with both the content and automotive industries. Produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)®, the 2008 International CES, the world#8217;s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, runs through Thursday in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast Corp., delivered the morning keynote address, becoming the first chief executive from the cable industry to deliver a CES keynote. Roberts said today's convergence of media has ushered in a new era for Comcast, which he referred to as Comcast 3.0. He identified innovation, technology, choice and customer service as the four major elements at the center of Comcast 3.0.

Roberts announced the end of an era for set-top boxes, and proclaimed a new generation for two-way platforms with the introduction of an OpenCable platform called tru2way. Panasonic president Toshihiro Sakamoto joined Roberts on stage to announce their co-creation of AnyPlay, the first portable DVR and DVD combination with tru2way capability. Roberts also announced that more than 1,000 HD choices will be available for the portable device in 2008.

With the help of American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Roberts debuted Fancast, a launch pad for the convergence of the PC and television, creating a personalized television experience. The individualized site links quickly and easily to content on the television, Internet, DVDs or in theaters. With the use of wideband instead of broadband, Fancast is able to download a two-plus hour HD movie in four minutes. It is the first site where consumers can find, watch and manage all their video content in one place.

Rick Wagoner, chairman and CEO of General Motors Corporation, delivered the afternoon keynote, marking the first CES keynote address by an automaker. As Wagoner noted in his remarks, GM's presence at the show is further evidence of the convergence of the automotive and consumer electronics industries.

"If the automobile was invented today, it would have debuted at CES," said Wagoner."Because more and more, that's exactly what today's cars and trucks are #8211; highly sophisticated consumer electronics."

Wagoner updated attendees on the company's OnStar technology, which he says will one day give drivers control of their cars directly from their wireless phones. However, Wagoner noted that GM's focus is increasingly in the area of fuel cell technology. Wagoner arrived on stage in a new Chevy Volt, GM#8217;s first demonstration of a new family of electrically driven propulsion systems. He also debuted the new Cadillac Provoq, which uses GM's fifth-generation fuel cell with a lithium-ion battery to produce an electrically driven vehicle that uses no petroleum and has no emission other than water.

Tuesday morning#8217;s Industry Insider program featured Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Kevin Martin, who joined CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro for a one-on-one conversation about broadband deployment in the U.S., net neutrality, two-way CableCard and the balance of copyright. Chairman Martin took questions from the audience, many of which focused on the transition to digital television (DTV).

When asked about the upcoming year, Martin said, #8220;The spectrum auction and the one-year countdown to the DTV transition will be at the forefront off the FCC#8217;s work.#8221;

In the noon SuperSession, #8220;Keeping CE off the Curb,#8221; executives from Dell, HP, Sony, Panasonic and TechTurn discussed the hot-button issue of electronic waste. Exploring the successes and challenges of both state-mandated and corporate electronics recycling programs, panelists revealed the topic#8217;s many complexities, such as who should pay for electronics recycling and how to address unscrupulous recycling in the developing world. There was a consensus among the panelists that to be successful a program must be convenient for consumers. The panelists also focused on the importance of reuse, refurbishment and eco-friendly design as an important part of the end-of-use equation.

Tuesday's International SuperSession explored how broadband policy framework will support future growth and access around the globe. Some of the world's leading policy makers highlighted their broadband challenges and success stories regarding deployment and availability. The panel discussed the current state of broadband in the U.S., Europe and Japan. With digital content, services and products becoming part of the global landscape, the panelists agreed that the value proposition of broadband is changing every day.

The afternoon SuperSession, #8220;Big Thinkers, Disruptive Technologies #8211; Today#8217;s Thought Leaders, Tomorrow#8217;s Technologies,#8221; offered predictions for future disruptive technologies that ranged from medical devices using advanced microchips; a universal availability of open-source software; all DRM-free music and the recent change in encryption licensing allowing consumers to download and burn their own media. The common theme of the panel was a future where consumers enjoy the democratization of information and technology.

Tuesday's International Retail Power Panel featured top executives from some of the world#8217;s largest retailers including Best Buy, Circuit City, China-based Gome, Target Corporation and UAE-based Al Futtaim. Moderated by CEA#8217;s Shapiro, the panelists discussed their individual markets and answered questions from the audience. Discussion topics included the HD-DVD and Blu-ray competition, the nation's nearing transition to digital television, consumer education, the industry's green movement and the importance of free trade.
