The new ECI-5 MK II from Electrocompaniet
Electrocompaniet is proud to introduce the MK II version of our best selling integrated amplifier; the
ECI-5. Our aim when designing the ECI-5 MK II was to make the sound more modern and enhancing
the details and dynamics. Feedback from our listening team tell us that we have succeeded; this
amplifier sounds much larger than the size and the price tag should indicate.
Utilizing new technology for enhanced performance
In many ways this MK-II version is a brand new amplifier, in which Electrocompaniet is using our best
technology to enhance performance.
The new ECI-5 MKII has a RRP of ¤ 3.790 and is available in May.

The new ECI-5 MK II has a more powerful output stage compared to the existing ECI-5. Twice the number of
output devices has been utilized to improved bass control and stability when driving heavy loads.
To improve the current reservoir the capacitor banks is increased to 80000 microfarad which is fed
by a powerful 500Va transformer. With these power resources the ECI-5 becomes capable of reproducing
the most dynamic recordings.
ECI-5 MK II also has a new and improved overload detection system that allows us to remove the
output relay. Hence the output stage is connected directly to the speaker with no relay controls in
the signal path that deteriorates over time.
All input switching is handled by high-end analogue switches with virtually no distortion and a life
time of trouble free operation.The input stage is built from discrete circuits running in class A with no
feedback. The output stage runs with moderate amounts of negative feedback, carefully balanced
between good bass extension and control, a detailed open midrange and a warm detailed top.
The ECI-5 MK II has a FTT power supply that makes it a very powerful 2 x 120 Watts amplifier; capable
of running large speakers. Like all other products from Electrocompaniet it has a fully balanced design.
It has a total of 6 inputs; 2 balanced, three single ended and one direct Home Theatre input.
The ECI-5 MK has a new and larger display that improves readability; the display can be dimmed,
very nice when you are listening to your favorite music at night.

Audio Research The Reference Anniversary

The Reference Anniversary's all-tube, class-A, triode audio circuit uses no feedback. The dual-mono gain stage has eight 6H30 tubes -#8211; four per channel. The separate power supply is immensely overbuilt, "ensuring unrivalled dynamic headroom." It features twice the power-supply energy storage as that of previous Audio Research Reference preamps. There are separate low- and high-voltage transformers and separate vacuum-tube regulation (6550C and 6H30 tubes) for each channel. Multiple stages of electronic regulation are used. Separate umbilicals for each channel attach the power supply to the audio chassis. All critical components were designed and manufactured solely for use by Audio Research.
The front-panel layout is identical to that of the Reference 5, with knobs for volume and input on either side of a vacuum-fluorescent display. Six small aluminum buttons provide control functions, which are duplicated on the Reference Anniversary's remote control. Inputs and outputs are typical of recent Audio Research preamps: seven balanced/single-ended inputs and two pairs of balanced/single-ended main outputs along with a monitor (record) output.
When the Reference Anniversary is turned on, the vacuum-fluorescent display will read "Anniversary Edition Reference Preamplifier 1970-1971" and begin to count up, year by year, until it reads "1970-2010." Silver handles are standard on silver units, but all-black units are also available. For optimal sonics and beauty, the top covers of both chassis are smoked acrylic. Black metal covers are also available at no additional cost.
The Reference Anniversary will have its own website -- www.astound-me.com -- that will allow a 360º view front and back and a 180º view above.
The Reference Anniversary will be available for only one year, Audio Research's 40th. At this time in 2011, production will cease.

Our claim that the Orion is the finest phono preamp ever built is less audacious than it may seem. Its circuitry was designed by John Curl, widely considered the world's best phono preamp engineer. Its construction and parts quality far exceed those of any competing product. Of course, our claim can truly be verified only by the listener-but we are confident that all who hear the Orion will be moved by its depth, detail, and musicality.
Curl's past achievements include phono preamps for CTC, Mark Levinson, Parasound, SOTA, and Vendetta Research. In the Orion, he draws from our exclusive stock of the world's quietest FETs to achieve a noise level of just 0.4 nanovolts per square Hertz, approximately equal to the noise level of a single 10-ohm resistor. Completing Curl's fully balanced dual-mono circuit are metal-film Vishay resistors, custom-made polypropylene and Teflon capacitors, and internal cabling made from custom-extruded PCOCC wire drawn from a single copper crystal.
Pyxis / system controller
Because signal levels inside a phono preamp are so low, the circuits tend to be microphonic-they pick up external vibrations and emit them as audio signals, which causes distortion. To eliminate this effect, we have mechanically isolated the circuit boards to an unprecedented degree. The circuit boards are built on a raft composed of a pliable polymer layer sandwiched between thick sheets of stainless steel. The raft is attached to an elastomeric suspension designed to damp vibration. The surrounding chassis is milled from a solid billet of aluminum, with a wall thickness of 8.2mm to block all electromagnetic interference.
To prevent the power supply's energy from disturbing the audio circuits, we enclose it in a separate chassis. Separate R-core power transformers for the left channel, the right channel, and the control circuitry are provided for complete intra-circuit isolation.

The included Pyxis touchscreen system controller accesses the Orion's adjustments, including source impedance and load capacitance. Each of the three inputs has its own settings memory.
