Wake Up Call

New York Jazz Guitarist Bob Gallo teams up with Trumpeter Alex Sipiagin, Pianist Misha Tsiganov, Bassist Boris Koslov and Drummer Gene Jackson in this lyrical, swinging contemporary jazz outing.

Bob Gallo
Guitarist/Composer

For close to 10 years, Jazz Guitarist/Composer Bob Gallo's playing could be heard world-wide in the incidental and theme song music in episodes of the popular and now syndicated number one television show of the late 80's and early 90's The Cosby Show and It's A Different World. For 5 years, Bob Gallo was the featured acoustic guitarist who accompanied popular recording legend Aretha Franklin on the theme song of It's A Different World weeknights on NBC. Following his work for NBC, he could be heard weekly on the popular Fox 5 Network series Living Single. Currently, he can be heard world-wide on syndicated episodes of all three shows for which he composed, performed and acted as Assistant to the Musical Director. In 1999 Bob Gallo began working on the popular animated Cosby series for Nickelodeon and CBS entitled Little Bill, also released on Paramount Home Video and DVD, for which he currently composes, arranges and performs. The soundtrack features Bob playing jazz guitar in a quartet setting behind voice-overs of such well-know actors as Phylicia Rashad, the late Madeline Kahn and Gregory Hines, Rosie Perez and Bill Cosby. An active studio musician, Gallo has recorded with singer Denise Williams on her Grammy Award-winning CD This Is My Song.

Bob Borgstede
Narrative Threads

Check out this St. Louis jazz guitarist's debut album featuring the award-winning song "Nola's Waltz."

In 2004, Bob Borgstede went into the studio and recorded his first album as a leader - "Narrative Threads." Initially conceived as an instrumental jazz trio album to showcase Bob's guitar playing, the project slowly emerged as something larger as both Bob and his producer, Miles Vandiver, realized the textural possibilities of Bob's compositions. Eventually the final musical lineup emerged as follows:

Bob Borgstede - guitarist/composer
Miles Vandiver - drums/producer/engineer
Zeb Briskovich - bass
Rick Haydon - guitar (on "Now What")
Jason Swagler - alto sax - (on "South Bend" and "The Ripper")
Reggie Thomas - keyboards (on "Not Too Late," "Redwood Falls," and "Summer Groove")

Always fascinated by the storytelling potential of music, Bob modeled the narrative flow of the album after some of his favorite musicians, from Pat Metheny to James Taylor. Since its release, the album has been successful both critically and commercially. In 2005, Bob was awarded with the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer's Award for "Nola's Waltz."

Philip Paul
It's About Time

King Records legendary studio drummer plays jazz with Peter Frampton

Excerpts from Cincinnati Post Review By Rick Bird
Cincinnati Post staff reporter

You can't find a more aptly titled CD than drummer Philip Paul's new release, "It's About Time." You can't pick a date more appropriate for his CD release party than tonight, as Paul turns 78 today.
And you can't find a more unlikely guest artist: Playing jazz guitar on a cut on the CD is rock 'n' roller Peter Frampton.
Philip Paul is the legendary Cincinnati drummer who has played on over 350 records in his 55-year career, including many of the seminal blues and R&B songs that made King Records the petri dish for rock in the '50s.
