Mel Brown Quartet - Girl Talk

Mainstream jazz Quartet playing standards and originals, lead by virtuouso drummer Mel Brown featuring NW jazz masters Tony Pacini, Dan Balmer, and Ed Bennett who take you on a swinging journey you won't soon forget

If mainstream jazz is your bag, the Mel Brown Quartet brings you bop, ballads and scintillating originals making you gald you have ears. With over 100 years of collective experience, here's a group that knows the tradition and brings it boldly to the bandstand on every gig.

Mel Brown was a featured drummer with Motown greats The Temptations, The Supremes etc., but is even better at the jazz kit where he is one of the true masters of his instrument. On this outing, with his favorite group, he is joined by young jazz master Tony Pacini at the piano, Northwest guitar legend Dan Balmer (Tom Grant, Joey Defrancesco, David Friesen) and acoustic bass giant Ed Bennett (Carmen McCrae, Toshiko Akioshi, Lew Tabakin etc.) on a set of tunes that reflects their three years of steady work together.

NOTES
With her premier full-length CD recording Lisa has taken a fresh look at popular jazz standards to create modern soulful renditions that are all her own. The CD also features her first recorded original, What Can I Do, on which Nelson Rangell adds his magic with Soprano Sax. As an artist, Lisa dares to be different, expressive and musically eclectic. Her first CD reflects her unique style, smooth vocals and a band of musicians second to none. From the first notes of Summertime with a searing Latin beat, to the final In a Sentimental Mood with its exquisitely poignant vocal/guitar arrangement, Dare To Be...provides variety and excitement for standard and "cool" jazz lovers of all kinds. Dare To Be...is presented on the Hapi Skratch Records label.

Larkin McLean

It was the late-great pianist and arranger George Gaffney who told Larkin she should make an album. She decided to make an album of obscure sexy jazz standards. A magical 100% synchronicity happened when someone gave her Producer Kenny Lyon's telephone number.

Larkin and Kenny met up in a bar in K-Town (Korea Town) across the street from the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. An area where jazz clubs once thrived. Kenny bought Larkin a tomato juice and the rest is history. They have been working together ever since. Larkin and Kenny also made an album with all original songs called "X-rated Musical"

Reynold Philipsek
Grey Chalet

Gypsy Jazz Guitar in the style of Django

Roots in jazz- Reynold's more recent listeners may not realize that he
started out as a jazz guitarist. In his late teens and early twenties
Reynold released several jazz guitar albums which garnered some five star
reviews. At the time(1973-1981) Reynold was also recognized by the
internationally distributed Guitar Player Magazine when they listed him in
their jazz player poll along side such greats as Jim Hall, Joe Pass and Pat
Martino.

The big "C" cancer diagnosis- On December 25, 1981 Reynold was diagnosed with cancer. After his eventual cure and recovery he embarked on a mission of self discovery and world travel that led him to test a variety of musical waters. Since 1983 he has released 15 albums that covered musical genres from Pop, World Music, Contemporary Folk to Classical. Many of Reynold's original songs showcased his self-effacing humor and led to an introspective book of poetry Travel through the Middle Ages.
