Karen Gallinger Live at the Jazz Bakery

Jazz & Blues Vocalist with the perfect measurements of elegance and power.

Live at the Jazz Bakery was Karen Gallinger's 1995 debut release. It received airplay across the USA and is a "Mainstream jazz vocal album with a solid singer and an exciting trio." ( Jazz Now) Her sense of humor combine with her interpretive abilities and show her to be not only "stylish and sultry" (O.C. Register) , but "simply fun and irresistible." (L.A. Weekly) According to the L.A. Jazz Scene " she's got it all... voice... timing... phrasing... but most of all... soul." This recording features all of those qualities plus a first rate trio!

Karen Oberlin
Secret Love: the Music of Doris Day

In this elegant tribute to Doris Day, Karen delivers each song with warmth, honesty, and no frills, radiating positive energy as if she's by your side, singing in your ear.

From the liner notes by James Gavin (author of Deep in a Dream: the Long Night of Chet Baker, published by Knopf):

Most people think of Doris Day as a Hollywood girl-next-door who sang in her films. Posterity hasn't quite placed her where she belongs: among a handful of truly great singers - Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney - who made lyrics sound so personal and true that you forgot you were hearing a so-called "performance." James Cagney, Day's co-star in Love me or Leave Me, summed up her gifts: "The touchstone is simplicity, the simple line of performance, directly to you, uncluttered." In her best and worst films, in "The Comb and Paper Polka" or in the Rodgers & Hart score of the movie Jumbo, Day's utter genuineness never fails to touch the heart.

Karen Blixt
Spin This

Vocalist Karen Blixt and allstar cast including Joey DeFrancesco, Russell Ferrante, Alex Acuna and Paul McCandless deliver hip arrangements of classic standards and cool originals.

Spin This includes very different interpretations of widely-familiar tunes ranging from an exciting odd-meter “My Favorite Things” to a vocal duet with organ B-3 master Joey DeFrancesco on “When You’re Smiling.” Surprises such as Thelonius Monk’s “It’s Over Now” accompanied by only two bass clarinets, and Miles Davis’ “Four” with four choruses sung effortlessly at break-neck speed, signal that this is not standard vocal fare. Blixt also includes two little known gems, the provocative “Carefully Taught” from South Pacific, and Count Basie’s virtually unsung classic, “Swingin’ The Blues.” Add to that, three originals penned by Karen and her collaborator on this album, jazz and pop veteran producer and arranger, Frank Martin.
