Leni Stern - Finally The Rain Has Come

Uses americana textures, guitars, violin, worldmusic sounds such as tabla, tanburas and loops with elements of rock.

The songs for this CD were mostly written in 2001. I added some of the Indian sounds that I've come to love very much during my studies in Bombay over the last 2 years. My trio with Keith Carlock and Paul Socolow provides the background for our guests.

I first heard the band Shakti 20 years ago in a little concert hall in Munich, Germany. Nobody knew what World Music was back then, but everybody was intrigued by the new sound and the amazing virtuosity of all the players. I met Zakir Hussain in 1996 while on tour in Canada with my band, we sat next to each other on a flight from Montreal to Toronto. He patiently explained the basic rhythm structure of Indian music to me and wrote some examples in my notebook. Recording with Zakir Hussain and John Mclaughlin was a dream come true, I still can't believe it actually happened. I hope you enjoy listening as much as i enjoyed playing with them.

Kye Marshall
Standard Time

The cello brings a new and rich lyrical voice to traditional jazz standards with ballads, latin, swing and bop.

Standard Time is a "combination of great playing and sheer sonic majesty… If you like your jazz straight up, Standard Time will make you very happy. If you like your jazz to take you into new musical territory, it will make you ecstatic." Mark Rheaume, CBC

Ethel Ennis

Legendary jazz balladeer from the 1960's sings interpretations of standards and current songs

Ethel has been a recording artist for such major labels as Capitol, Atlantic, RCA, and BASF. She was a mainstay on the Arthur Godfrey television show and has performed around the world. She most recently appeared headlining at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Allen Room, New York city’s premier jazz venue.
Ethel keeps her home base in Baltimore. Her fellow Baltimorean, Billie Holiday, noticed the young singer and praised her unique style as a singer who is the real thing and doesn’t fake. Frank Sinatra labeled her “my kind of singer” and Ella Fitzgerald has called her “the best singer of her generation.”
