Gilad Hekselman - SplitLife

The winner of the 2005 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition--stunning guitar virtosity in a fantastic trio setting.

Remember the name Gilad Hekselman, because you’re going to be hearing it a lot from here on. He’s already made a big impression by winning the 2005 Gibson Montreux International Guitar Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival. But now here is his debut recording for all to hear.

Gilad Hekselman was born in Israel February 3, 1983 in Kfar Saba, and he grew up in Alfey Menashe. He began on piano at age six, and guitar at age nine. From ages 12-14 he performed regularly on two television programs on the Children Channel in Israel, where his fellow musicians introduced him to playing jazz. He attended Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts, a national magnet school also attended over the years by a number of notable Israeli jazz musicians. Several graduates of Yellin – including Omer Avital, Avi Leibovich, and Eli Digibri – migrated to New York in the mid-1990s, attended The New School, and ultimately became frequent performers at Smalls. Hekselman, who arrived at The New School in 2004, and who has been recently featured at Smalls, is the latest to become a part of that legacy.

Suss von Ahn
Zeldas Park

In Sweden Suss has often been compared to Norah Jones and this album shows her fantastic vocal and songwriting abilities in a mixture of jazz and pop.

In Sweden Suss has often been compared to Norah Jones and this album shows her fantastic vocal and songwriting abilities in a mixture of jazz and pop. She´s got Swedens best musicians to back her up with
Christer Jansson on drums, Matts Alsberg on bass,Torbjörn Stener,Pelle Robertsson, Robert Öberg and Thomas Tjärnkvist on guitars, Jonas Sjöblom on percussion and Suss plays all the keyboards.
Stockholm Power Horns contribute on a couple of songs.
The radio single “Gone Fishing” taken from the album has been played a lot on Swedish radio stations and the album got very good reviews in the press.
Suss grew up in the northern part of Sweden and as a preachers daughter experienced the benefits of moving around a lot. She spent 5 years of her childhood in Liberia , on the west coast of Africa . At the age of thirteen she started to write her own songs and learned to play the piano. Shortly after that she became a member in a band in Umeå, Sweden and also the pianist of a gospel choir. A few years later she started her own band. In 1994 her first album was released. She has performed at: Falun Jazz Festival; Umeå International Jazz Festival; Stockholm Jazz Festival just to name a few and many times on Swedish Television.

Annie Ross
Let Me Sing

Legendary Annie Ross From the classic vocal roots of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross

As a child she sang for Duke Ellington and was praised by him. As a teenager she heard Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and lived hippily ever affter. Well it wasn't that simple - or easy, But if show business was in her blood, jazz crept into her bones. She rubbed elbows with Stella Brooks; subbed at the Apollo Theater for Billie Holiday and became a caring friend to Lady Day; was married to Kenny Clarke and recorded with an incipient Modern Jazz Quartet; wrote the lyrics to Wardell Gray's "Twisted" and Art Farmer's "Farmer's Market" and vocally negotiated their serpentine contours with uncanny elan; was a nightclub entrepreneur in London at "Annie's Room"; appeared with Anthony Newley in Cranks; Vanessa Redgrave in Three Penny Opera; and was directed by Robert Altman in The Player and Short Cuts

Kul med musiktips men varför all kopierad text?
