Kevin Gallagher - Classical Guitarist
Baroque And Renaissance Music For Classical Guitar

Baroque and Renaissance music played beautifully on classical guitar

Kevin R. Gallagher is recognized as one of America's leading guitarists. He began playing rock guitar in his formative years but his musical appetite quickly led him to study jazz and ultimately, classical guitar. His talent for the classical guitar won him numerous scholarships and awards while studying with Benjamin Verdery at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and at the Julliard School under the tutelage of Grammy-winning guitarist Sharon Isbin. He was the first-prize winner in 1993 Guitar Foundation of America, the 1994 ASTA, and the 1993 Artists International Competitions. He also has the distinct honor of being the only American classical guitarist ever to win first prize in the prestigious Francisco Tárrega Guitar Competition in Spain (1997).

Michael Partington
Song and Dance

Traditional repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day from this award-winning classical guitarist. Dowland, Weiss, Ponce, Kleynjans, Giuliani, Torroba, Maxwell Davies

"...very well played, with an excellent feeling for harmonic tension and release. There is such a natural unstudied shape to the phrases, I was immediately put at ease and found myself enjoying the music. These pieces range form simple, transparent purity to complex contrapuntal lines... all are handled with equal ease. This is a fine CD, and one I will listen to again after this review is written."
John Ingwerson, Soundboard

"...as accomplished as you're likely to find... secure and stylish."
Paul Fowles, Classical Guitar Magazine

Michael Partington is one of the most engaging of the new generation of concert players. Praised by Classical Guitar Magazine for his "lyricism, intensity and clear technical command," this award-winning British guitarist has performed internationally as a soloist and with ensemble to unanimous critical praise. Audiences are put at ease by his charming stage manner and captivated by his musical interpretations. His innate rhythmic understanding and sense for tonal colour combine to form some of the most memorable phrasing to be heard on the guitar.

David Ferrara
Songs Without Words

This CD is a recording of classical guitar masterpieces from 1550 to 1971

Award-winning classical guitarist David Ferrara recently released his first solo CD, Songs Without Words.

Mr. Ferrara has twice been the recipient of a Master Artist's Fellowship from Dayton's Culture Works, in 1998 and again in 2002, both times edging out more well-known artists in the running. He holds a B.M. in guitar performance from CCM at the University of Cincinnati and a M.M. in guitar from Southern Methodist University. He attended both schools under full scholarship, and perfomed in many masterclasses, including those of Carlos Barbosa-Lima, Pepe Romero, Norbert Kraft, and others. He won several national competitions while a student.

Duarte
Leyenda

A blend of Spanish, Brazilian and Classical guitar work with a light jazz touch. The setting is both solo performance as well as three of the Brazilian pieces played with a full rhythm section and percussion. The playing here is breathtakingly beautiful.

Duarte's musical style is firmly based in traditional Latin music, while referencing elements of funk and jazz fusion.

His playing remains beautiful and communicative throughout, reflecting a true sense of the gypsy spirit. In his solo acoustic playing, as well as in his searing electric solos, he plays with a passion that equally captivates the listener.

The youngest of seven children, Duarte was exposed to a broad range of musical styles, including rock, folk, and big band jazz. In grade school, his Spanish teacher would often stay after class, playing and singing Flamenco music, and accompanying herself on the guitar. This was a major influence in his development.

Duarte began playing guitar at age 12, becoming lead guitarist in a rock band within four months. His innovation and curiosity led him to classical music and jazz during high school, and he continued playing acoustic styles as therapy from the rock bands.
