Sarena Paton : Almost Like Love

Biography & Reviews

Sarena Paton is known to have one of the most angelic voices in our country. After graduating from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University, receiving the Alumni Gold Medal in Spanish, Sarena has enjoyed a busy schedule with the release of her debut CD, “Almost Like Love.” As a jazz singer, she has performed at the World Cycling Championships, the Queen’s Jubilee at Copps Coliseum, the Juno Beach Memorial and the Vienne Jazz Festival in France as well as the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 2003 fronting the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band. She has worked with David Braid, Russ Fearon, Bil Holinaty, Matt Kennedy, Mike Malone, Cary Santucci, Henry Strong Dr. Russ Weil. While re-inventing jazz standards with her own flair, Sarena’s true passion is to discover the overlooked, unfamiliar songs to make her own. Her unique style, spirit and affection for her audience promise an exciting future for Sarena.

Reviews: In A Word:

“…Sarena Paton’s gorgeously coloured, rich voice ….utterly secure exquisite spun gold woven on a loom of endless breath. .."
-Hugh Fraser, The Hamilton Spectator

“…In particular, her rendition of the Hoagy Carmichael / Jane Brown Thompson piece 'I Get Along Without You Very Well' was beyond reproach. The arrangement and interpretation showed her range and scope as a vocalist as well as her ability to truly capture the attentions of an audience. It is a rare and precious gift to be able to so definitively possess a song so as to transport a listener to such a delightful place…”
