The XO has over 250 hours on it now, and I continue to be "wowed" by the impact this significant tweak has made - which is more a component upgrade than a tweak. I'd say that most of the sonic burn in occurred over the first 80 hours with arguable refinement well into 200 hours.

So, what were the noticeable changes? In no particular order because of the sweeping nature of the XO impact, what comes to mind:

- bass extension and definition - much more solid and "present"; deeper with all the wonderful quickness and timbre that planar die hards love

- top end resolution - the QR top end harshness now replaced with cystalline sweetness; resolves feathered cymbal work with absolute clarity and finesse

- soundstage increased in all dimensions - the soundstage which was slightly recessed previously now more pleasantly forward (but not in your face); deeper, wider (ambients)

- resolution increased - ambient detail noticeably increased leading to increased soundstage presentation; system resolves decay time information providing recording (hall, chamber...) space sizing; just plain more resolving of everything in the signal

- balance - the overall sound is more coherent top to bottom; the sound is "effortless", smooth yet with micro- and macro-dynamics increased; midrange (vocals) even more delicious

- more real and accurate - all the above combine to provide more accurate portrayal of the music; those with better trained ears than I could name the instrument makes and materials; guitar, vocal, piano, choral work outstanding

- more immediacy and presence - more "aliveness" from increased dynamics; maybe not the jump-factor of dynamic speakers but I can live with this.

The XO upgrade required twixing the speaker positions again. As indicated before, this upgrade is highly recommended BUT AFTER one has addressed downstream issues. I would surmise that failing to do so would yield agravating weaknesses in one's system: one's sound could be disappointing from an inadequate cdp, amplification or wire - the stock 1.6's are wonderful and relatively forgiving speakers. But what this mod does is unleash incredibly discerning transducers - it made me appreciate the work I had done to address my A/C issues to lower the noise floor.
