Ärade vetenskapsmän, detta är knappast någonting med signifikans, men ni andra kan läsa, vad jag hittade på rec.audio.high-end (under rubrik "The Great Texas Audio Cable Shootout!")

Saxar originalet:

From the shores of the beautiful Lake Travis in Austin, TX:

Over the Labor Day weekend we conducted an intense 2-day listening test of various speaker cable and interconnect combinations. The six people who participated were experienced audiophiles and/or music professionals. Each brought their favorite wires to the test. The balanced interconnects from DAC to preamp were 3-5 feet in length and from preamp to amps between 10 and 12 feet. The speakers were bi-wired with 8 foot runs of cable except for Kimber that was supplied with its own bi-wire jumpers.

The following cables were involved (speaker cable/interconnect).

A: MIT MH-750 Shotgun/MIT MI-330 Shotgun
B: Kimber Select KS 3038 & bi-wire jumpers/Kimber Select KS 1130
C: Nordost Valhalla/Nordost Valhalla
D: Audioquest Kilimanjaro/Audioquest Anaconda
E: Purist Audio Design Radiant Light Source system
F: Canare 4S11/Canare L-4E6S

Each participant ranked the six combinations in twelve categories as indicated below. The winner was chosen by average rank with equal weight given to each category. In addition, at the end of the test everyone chose their favorite combo.

The review system was a traditional 2-channel stereo setup in a purpose-built and acoustically engineered listening room with an approximate volume of 5,500 cu ft.

Front end: Spectral SDR-3000 CD transport and SDR-2000 Pro HDCD DAC connected with Spectral's proprietary interface.
Amplification: Boulder 2010 preamp to Boulder 2050 monoblock amps.
Speakers: B&W Nautilus 800.

All electronics rested on Zoethecus rack and amp stands.

Equi=Tech balanced power was used throughout the system.

Music was a selection of JVC XRCD's and Reference Recordings HDCD's.

The test was subjective in nature but in the end everyone agreed that the differences in most cases were NOT subtle and quite easy to recall. Everyone also agreed that it was a lot of fun!

But when it was all said and done the MIT and Nordost combos emerged as the clear choices among the participants.

These are highlights of the comments:

MIT: Amazing bass, fast, resolving, muffled highs, ugly, incomparable
Kimber: Smooth, OK, neutral, ordinary, so-so, airy
Nordost: Resolving, fast, bright, bright, neutral, accurate
Audioquest: Cloudy, smooth, soft, tubey, big soundstage, bass-shy
PAD: Smooth, low resolution, airy, distorts signal, a filter, anti-MIT
Canare: Neutral, bright, lacks detail, neutral, murky, small soundstage

If nothing else, I hope this provides a starting point for those about to spend some money on audio cables. Of course, YMMV, as usual.

Så, det var det!
